Benches and Shelters

MATS installs 100 benches! MATS has recently reached a landmark! The 100th transit bench was installed the weekend of August 12, 2006. More benches are slated to be purchased and installed for the program. However, reaching 100 benches is a major accomplishment for the system. Benches and shelters are seen more and more throughout the city’s streets along fixed bus routes.
The benches are attracting more passengers and adding another amenity to the fast growing system. We have had several requests for bench site locations and welcome any request from the public. Many requests have already been fulfilled. The feedback from the passengers has been positive and they enjoy being able to have a place to sit while waiting for the bus. The benches are the same type that the city’s park and recreation department has installed for continuity.
Montgomery Area Transit looks forward to providing more services and amenities to the system and taking care of the needs of Montgomery

West Montgomery’s Harvest Fest
Montgomery Area Transit System (MATS) participated in this year’s Harvest Fest sponsored by The Council on Substance Abuse-NCADD and Montgomery AIDS Outreach held October, 31, 2007 at the Kershaw YMCA.
The annual event provides an alternative to traditional Halloween activities by providing area kids with games, giveaways, food and fun for all. The event is also a showcase for community organizations to reach out and educate the participants about their programs and services.
MATS featured information about riding the bus including route maps and answered questions about shared transportation. For the kids (and kids at heart) MATS provided candy and bracelets as a “treat” for stopping by our table.

Convoy of Hope

The convoy of hope was a very special event. This city wide event was done in conjunction with area churches. There were three areas for people to go to, in addition to getting free groceries. They had a medical tent where people could go and get information in addition to being able to get there eyes checked.
They had a community service tent, where people could come and get information about services offered throughout the greater Montgomery area.
We had a table in the community service tent. We gave out our routes in a bundle that had all 16 routes included in it. In addition to the routes we also gave out pens and candy. Lastly, they had a kid’s tent that had games and inflatables for kids to play on.
They also had outside staging for the kids outside of the kid’s tent and staging on the hill for adults. Both stages featured Christian music. It was a very nice event.
The people who came out really enjoyed themselves and were grateful for the help they received that day. -Victoria L. Belton
